Biggest Loser Season 13 Episodes 2 & 3

I missed my update last week so you’re going to get 2 in 1 today and Epidode 2 might not get as much attention because I don’t know how much I will remember.

Anyway, on with the post…

Episode 2

The Poker Challenge

Well, in episode 2 they did something different that I’ve never seen them do before – they played poker!  Kim and Kimmy from the red team played to represent their team and the black team was represented by Joe and Emily.  Now, Joe has played poker a lot so he had a big advantage.  The girls – not so much.

They had to put out a bet using chips to represent how much weight they would lose as a team over the next week.  Kim and Kimmy got to put out the first bet because their team had won the weigh in in week 1.  Now, anyone who has ever watched The Biggest Loser should know that week 2 is hell and that the numbers drop significantly from the first week because their bodies are in a state of shock and are kind of hanging on to every calorie they can.  The people who lose the most in the first week are usually the ones that lose the least in the second week.  So what do those dumb girls do (and I love Kim Neilson but damn this was stupid!)?  The bet that their team will lose 3.8% of their total body fat as a team.  Now, the week before they only lost a little over 4% so the chances of this happening are like next to impossible.

Joe, being a smart gambler immediately folded.  He knew it wasn’t going to happen and his black team would win the challenge by default.

What did the winner get?  Well, if the red team could lose 3.8% of their body fat as a team they would have gotten a 5 lb. advantage.  If they didn’t lost that much, the 5 lb. advantage would go to the other team.

The Rest of the Show

The rest of the show wasn’t too exciting.  The nutritionist from the show came and talked to them about food and stocked the cupboards and then headed off to see the green team that still has a chance of making it back on the ranch.  They had a challenge where they had to collect puzzle pieces and then put them together and it was a close call but the black team won.

The did the last chance workout and Dolvette did a lot of the things that Bob has done in previous shows.  I have to admit it was pretty funny to watch Bob getting all pissy at Dolvette.  I actually think that the competition between Bob and Dolvette might be one of the most interesting aspects of this season.   Maybe they should just strip down to their skivvie and have it out on the front lawn?  In a kiddie pool filled with jello?  LOL

The Weigh In

Finally, the weigh in.  I’m not going to go through all the numbers but the red team totally got OWNED by the black team.  Even though it was week 2, the black team did not too bad and they would have won without the 5 lb. advantage.  I hope that Kim learned a valuable lesson – don’t be to eager to volunteer to be the leader!

Oh and did she get sent home by her team?  No (which I’m really glad for).  Instead the team decided to send home Mike, Joe’s brother.  The main feeling was that Mike had a bad attitude and wasn’t putting in his full effort.  And I have to agree.  He was kind of snarky to a few people and he took lots of breaks in the last chance workout.  He barely broke a sweat.  But he was having issues with the team split up because a good part of the reason why he decided to join the show was to spend time with Joe.  And Joe got pretty buddy-buddy with the guys on his team and was really only seeing Mike at night.  So, one of the potentially big losers on the red team went home.

Episode 3

Food Challenge

This episode was a little bit more interesting.

The show started with the first food challenge of the season – Chinese food.  Did you know that Chinese food was that bad for you?  I mean, I knew there was a lot of salt in it but I had no idea how high the calories were.  And I love Chinese. ;(

The teams each had the chance to be in the room by themselves and eat.  Which ever team ate the most calories would get the opportunity to pair up opposite team members (red vs black) to weigh in against each other.   When they did the weigh in, each time a pair weigh in, the one that lost the most weight percentage would gain a point for their team.  The team with the most points would win the weigh in.  The person who ate the most calories would also win a 2 lb advantage that they could do what they wished with.  They could keep it for themselves or they could give it to someone else on the team or they could split it between two members.

The black team went first and decided not to eat anything at all.  The red team went second and decided to eat two fortune cookies worth 60 calories total.  Cassandra was the one to eat the cookies.  She had to make the pairing immediately and they were paired up like this:

  • Roy & Emily
  • Jeremy & Lauren
  • Joe & Nancy
  • Chism & Kim
  • Mark & Chris
  • Megan & Buddy
  • Gail & Kimmie
  • Cassandra & Condra

Good pairing in my opinion.  Cassandra would decide what to do with the 2 lb. advantage at the weigh in.

Wuss Goes Home

Well, what happened next pissed me off.  Yet ANOTHER person opted to go home and I totally didn’t expect this.  It was Joe from the black team.  WTH???  Yes, he missed his family.  Boo hoo.  Have you never seen the show before?  Have you never been away from your family before to know you would miss them?  It makes me so mad because  there are SO many people in the US that would love the chance to be on this show and you’re just going to go home?  I’m betting that he won’t be at the finale.

The big problem with that was that now Nancy had no one to face off against at the weigh in and Alison informed them that she would win by default and the red team already had a point towards winning.  Well, the black team was not impressed with that. And that might have been just what they needed.

The Challenge

The challenge was fun this week.  It was something I’d never seen them do before.  Each member of the team had a role.  The first person on the team would pump water into a bucket and then bring it to the person at the wall who would then pour it over the wall into the bucket of the person that was waiting below who would then take it to the person standing on the ladder who would then pour it into a chute and then the person waiting below would catch it and run to pour it over a block of ice where the prize was frozen inside.  (I think I might be missing a couple steps but you get the idea).  Conda was one of the water pumper because she lives on a farm and does that all the time.  Well, that didn’t work out very well and she tired quickly and had to be switched off with someone.  It was so very close but the red team won and got video chats with their family members.  There were a lot of tears of course because people were happy and some were sad.

Roy (Santa) immediately said that he wanted to give his to his wife because he knew how much she missed the kids and he thought she needed it more.   Mark gave his to Chism because he knew Chism missed his mom and his girlfriend.  Lauren gave hers to her Mom.  Jeremy gave  his to Mark so that Mark and Chism could go to the chat together.  These are the scenes that always make me cry.  Not so much because they get to see their families but because of the people who give up their prize for other people.  I know I’d be one of those people giving up my prize.  I just hate seeing people be sad.

Competition Between Cassandra and Conda

In the first workout and the last chance workout Dolvette thought it would be a great idea to get the pairs that are teamed up against each other competing a bit.  There were a few competitions that were in good fun and then he put Cassandra and Conda together in a burpees competition.  Cassandra won and Conda had to buy her lunch as a result.  Well, Conda immediately started whining and crying that Cassandra cheated.  Which in my opinion she didn’t.  She did buy her lunch but she continued to whine about it so Dolvette said they would have a rematch at the last chance workout.  They did a ladder challenge and Cassandra won again.  Conda annoys me.  I’ll just say that.

The Weigh In

Finally, the weigh in.  Well, losing Joe must have been a really big inspiration to the black team because they killed it again and the red team went to the elimination room again.  Kim got one vote, Nancy got two, and Lauren got five.  The reason that Lauren was sent home was because those who voted for her figured that of everyone, she was the one most likely to do well at home.

So that’s it for this week!  Hopefully I won’t miss next week and you won’t have so much to wade through!
